2012 Cleveland Race Week

Edgewater Yacht Club, Cleveland OH

June 16-17

As to the regatta itself, I might only add that by my main barometer, ie., what was the atmosphere within the fleet on and off the water, it was a great outing.  Jim and Andrew Hermetet won the first race and then capsized in the last and were all smiles after both events.  Joe Minerd, stuck crewing on a Tarten 10, talked his, "smoken hot girl friend" ( his words) Jacqueline Gedeon into crewing for me.  It was her first time in a Jet but by no means in a dinghy, what a fast study.  Every good race we had was her pulling us through the fleet.   And beauty is as beauty does, what a delightful young woman on and off the water.  Many other highlights,  like the return of two Class heroes, Greg Koski and Dick Parker.  Dick Parker, Bryan's dad, taught Bryan most of what he knows about sailing, has an enviable racing record in Stars and a host of other Classes, AND he and his brother broke into the Marine business building........Jet-14s!  He and his nephew Seth Parker had the most fun of anyone and shared that enjoyment with anyone that came near.  I love those guys.  Greg Koski likely needs little introduction, a world class sail maker, having among his many sailing awards, three or four Jet-14 National Championship wins.  His skills were in full view to anyone that wanted to watch.  He made large and small adjustments to the rigging and trim on #1157 between every race, and not just some haphazard crap like I do.  He worked though one symptom after the next and I want to tell you by the time the eighth race rolled around he and Cara Brown had that boat singing.  At least I think that is what I heard, by then he was like 200 yards ahead of us.  Bryan and Tiffany were watching and applied their own skills and were matching his speed upwind and down.  Edgewater is Dave and Sue's home port and once the wind filled in for the last five races the worse they would finish was 2nd.  Charlie Bark was sailing #1137 with a very delightful fellow( I am sorry I missed his name) and is still trying to find the consistent go button in the Jet.  But he is showing some flashes of speed and that is how it starts to come together.  Hang in there Charlie.  Ernie Michaud also had a wonderful young woman crewing in a Jet for the first time, and the conditions we saw were a real test, and they had a wonderful time.

On the Allens, we are building a useful and growing knowledge base, thanks to Dave Michos and Bryan and Tiffany and now Greg. I am very encouraged that we can now offer a new boat that will match the potential performance of any Jet-14 out there.

If this was a preview, you do not want to miss the up coming National Championships at Lorain.  I do hope to see you all there,   Marion
