May 19-20
It was vintage Mohican in May this past
weekend for the Chiefs Regatta, unfortunately. Beautiful weather, sunny with highs in
the low 80's, and winds in the low to mid fractions of a knot much of the time.
The good news is most every helm and
crew hardly noticed. Or perhaps better
put, didn’t expect much else and went about sailing as best they could.
We were delighted to have Class Web Master Chris Hennon with us. All the way up from North Carolina, twenty some hours of road time before he gets home, thank you Chris for all your work and support on behalf of the Class. The Michos’s made it down to represent the Edgewater fleet with Bryan and Tiffany Parker, and Captain Crunch with his crew T~Rex (Seth and his dad Tim Parker) filled out our traveler ranks.
We managed three races Saturday. There was some wind, never for more than one and a half legs is all. So if you were in the way of the next puff you did pretty well, if not. Of course some have the knack of almost always being first to that new puff and so it was this weekend with the Michos’s and Bryan and Tiffiany Parker. Nate Ireland with Bridget’s regular crew Joe Minerd and Mike and Jon Chambers displayed similar abilities. The rest of us used as much energy keeping our good humor. Dinner went well, stake and chicken and desserts of most every kind.
Sunday morning and there was, well, less wind. Two more races and then lunch. Stewart Fitz Gibbon cooked hamburger for everyone and we finished of the desserts from the night before, we can count on a good ending in the kitchen.
Thank you to everyone again for making the effort to clear your schedule, get crew, get your boat organized, and do what it takes to be here. A big thank you to our Race Manager of these many, many years Mike Fulton who again did everything humanly possible to give us some good racing.
