It was 17 years ago (1990) that Michael Kelly and myself last
sailed Jets at PRSA. Before that, it was 11 years, 1979!
Well, We're Back...
Attendance was down due to it being Mother's Day and the forecast of 18-25, but the wind laid down and we got off 5 races in 12-16 knots. It was a beautiful day. We did have some breakdowns though, Michael Kelly bent his mast and Eric broke his pole.
Sailing at PRSA is kind of like
sailing at Chuck Mill, except with current, chop, and instead of a
sunken Farm foundation, there is a sunken barge..
60 degree wind shifts were the order of the day, with first, the current going against us and then later in the day having it push boats over the line at the start. I could not detect any one side that was favored. I guess, we kind of played the middle, as I think my able partner, Ted Reshetiloff on this mother's day due to a lack of babysitting would attest to. James and Pete Mckenna would come ripping out of the left, and in the last race, it was Michael Kelly who won by going right. I enjoyed sailing reaches again, as Jets are a lot of fun to get up planing with the kites up.
We
enjoyed sharing the grill, burgers, dogs and beer with the Lightning
Fleet after the race. Many thanks to Kate for polishing the trophies,
and Mary Parramore for donating them. The next stop at PRSA is the
President's Cup/ Konigsburg in September. I hear talk of a pub crawl
on King Street in Old Town Alexandria on Saturday night of the
President's Cup..
