With just days before the 2005 Nationals, the racing standings for the Jet 14 Traveler's Series are in. The series has really brought some focus to "on-the-road" Jet sailing in a straight forward manner. There's no magic. First, to contend for a top spot you need to attend a regatta in almost every district. Attending only three regattas plus the Nationals can't be too hard for anyone's time budget. Second, the series has really brought a focus to attendance and promotion of regattas. Who wouldn't want to travel to a regatta in the Series if you saw 12 -- 14 -- or even 21 boats on the starting line! Let alone some of the best Jet sailors in the country.
Regatta promotion peaked with last year's Halloween Classic at Mohican Sailing Club, Ohio, where 21 boats attended. Dave Michos brought eight boats down from Cleveland for the event. At the Atlantic Coasts, Joy Shipman tried to fill every open boat, playing matchmaker between drivers and crews. Randy Bruns launched almost every carcass of a boat at West River Sailing Club bringing his entrants to 14.
Regatta promoters and fleet builders, mark which event in your area would attract the most boats in the coming twelve months.
Attached are the Traveler's Series standings. The 2005 series will conclude at the Nationals.
Hope to see you there or somewhere on the circuit.
