Gary and Cathy Mentesana repeated as District III champions in the Jet
14 class. The Arnold couple mastered the shifty conditions in winning
four of five races for a low score of nine.
"There were lots of passing lanes and that tends to favor my style more
than a pure boat speed contest," said Mentesana, who grew up sailing
Jet 14s with his father Nick on Spruce Run Lake in New Jersey.
"It's always nice to win the last regatta of the year. This gives us
bragging rights going into the winter."
Michael Parramore completed a strong season aboard his 1975 rebuild by
placing second with 18 points.
"This is the best year I've had sailing a Jet since 1995," said
Parramore, who sailed with wife Laury.
One point back in third was Dirk Schwenk, who made a big production of
renaming his boat Bridesmaid in recognition of his many runner-up
finishes to Brent Barbehenn at Jet 14 Nationals.
Schwenk, who attached a picture of himself in a bridesmaid dress to the
transom, won a tiebreaker with law firm partner Todd Lochner.
