2003 Packanack Lake Regatta / Dist. I Championship (Leg 3)

The Packanack Lake Regatta was held on Oct. 11th.  Seven boats showed up to race at one of the most beautiful lakes around.  Jim Lamb even came up from Virginia with his daughter and a brand new Jet!  With the leaves changing color at this time of year and the view from the clubs dock/deck, you should look to put this regatta on your calendar for next year.

 

Upon our arrival we were greeted by our host Sue Clark and a lake that looked like a sheet of glass.  As the masts went up the wind started to fill in and build. By the time the first race started there was a shifty northerly at 8 to 12 with gusts to 16. The wind was mostly straight down the lake but as the lake is in somewhat the shape of an hour glass it
was small lake sailing at its best.  Going through the "bottleneck" both up wind and down was always an adventure. 

 

Five races were sailed, Doug and Emily Brown were consistently towards the front and finished 1st.  In second place were Sean and Kerrie DeFusco who won race #4 but were gobbled up by the "bottleneck" one too many times. In 3rd place was Sue Clark and Debbie Cumings who won race # 2 Sue is a awesome sailor and we should try to get her out more.  Everyone took turns at leading the races and due to the shifts everyone traded places frequently.

 

The reggata was great fun and a good time was had by all.
