October 9
Pines Lake was WINDY with 5 of the 15 boats declining to sail, many capsizals and only Brian Mohan and Ted Klein finishing all four races, and taking the win with Nate Maier and Caleb Zimmerman in second.
Hunterdon's Gravy Bowl was sailed in beautiful 8-12 knot winds with Sean and Kerrie DeFusco taking first followed by Charlie Engler and Anita DeMatteo in second with the Brown and Benson teams close behind.
Going into leg 3 at Packanack, a win by Mohan, DeFusco, Engler, or Maier would have also won the Districts, with Browns and Bensons on their heels. The sailing conditions were outstanding all day in the 5 - 10 knot range. As shown below, it turned out to be a 3 way tie with the tie-breaker going to Doug and Emily.
That's about when you think back and wish you had done one thing or other slightly better during the day.....like avoiding the one foot win by the Flag Boat over the Charlie's Angel Syndicate in the second race!
But then you also think back at what fun Sailing is.....and appreciate these three great, hospitable regattas. And, wait 'til next year!
